morris.plyyard.com is maintained by Ply Yard and provides complete Nine Men's Morris play on the traditional 24-point board. Rules enforcement, board controls, and review tools are available together, without requiring an account or a native app.

Three ways to play, each for a different purpose

  • Play against AI: Choose White or Black and practice against four levels of local search, with hints, undo, and move-by-move replay for comparing alternatives.
  • Two players on one device: Share a screen for face-to-face play, rules instruction, or discussion of variations from the same position.
  • Online rooms: Create a public or private room, choose a side, and invite an opponent by link or room code. You can also join a public room or watch a game already in progress.

For the complete rules, see Nine Men's Morris Rules. For practical training ideas, see Nine Men's Morris Strategy.

The boundary between local games and online rooms

AI and same-device games are stored in the current browser, including the position, move history, and a small set of interface preferences. They do not depend on the room server. A refresh will usually preserve progress, but clearing site data removes local games.

Online rooms are different: the server temporarily holds room state and synchronizes moves, while the browser stores room identifiers needed to reconnect to a seat. Those identifiers restore a room seat; they are not a user account. See the Privacy Policy for the specific data involved and how it is cleared.

Clear limits on what the product provides

  • There are no ranks, rating tables, social accounts, or skill-based automatic matchmaking.
  • The public lobby allows visitors to join available rooms, but it is not an automated matchmaking service.
  • AI moves and hints come from local search and are not professional coaching or an official strength assessment.
  • Ordinary play does not require an email address, phone number, legal name, or payment information.

This site implements Nine Men's Morris, not Chinese checkers or 8×8 English draughts. If the written rules and the legal moves accepted by the board diverge, that is an implementation or documentation issue to correct, not an alternate ruleset.

How we decide whether a feature belongs

Each feature should directly help someone finish a game or understand a move. Board markers identify legal destinations, the move record returns you to a decision point, and room status confirms seats and connectivity. Accurate rules, clear feedback, and one consistent legal-move system across modes take priority over adding more menus.

About Ply Yard

This site is maintained by Ply Yard. Reports are handled against this site's own board, rules, and room implementation. If an illegal move is accepted, a legal move is rejected, the move record disagrees with the board, or room reconnection fails, please contact us with reproducible steps.
